Progress Outcomes Covered

We’ve designed this project to cover a large portion of the Digital Curriculum. Specifically looking at Progress Outcome 1 of Designing and Developing.

In authentic contexts and taking account of end-users, students participate in teacher-led activities to develop, manipulate, store, retrieve, and share digital content in order to meet technological challenges. In doing so, they identify digital devices and their purposes and understand that humans make them. They know how to use some applications, they can identify the inputs and outputs of a system, and they understand that digital devices store content, which can be retrieved later.
– Progress Outcome 1

It is primarily teacher facilitated and looks at the key notion of what a digital device is. To do this, we need to discuss what makes something digital. Is it electricity? Is it if it has smart technology? Like a smart watch? To do this, students will be given the opportunity to look into three key types of devices. These are digital devices, electronic devices and storage devices. This will enable children to identify a digital device and then will lead into children being able to discuss what the purpose of a digital device is.

Assessing Your Students

Year 2

  • Set 2.8: I can identify a range of digital devices
  • Set 2.9: I know that there are different types of technology (tv, computer, usb stick)
  • Set 2.10: I know that devices have changed over time and that technology has made them better.
  • Set 2.11: I can say what everyday devices are used for. (eg; phone, usb stick, remote)
  • Set 2.12: I can identify inputs of everyday objects
  • Set 2.13: I can identify outputs of everyday objects

Year 3

  • Set 3.8: I understand that devices are made for a purpose
  • Set 3.9: I can explain why a variety of devices were created.

Year 4

  • Set 4.14: I can identify and create inputs
  • Set 4.15: I can identify and create outputs
  • Set 4.16: I understand that when I use an input, a device processes it and produces an output
