In today’s digital age, the ability to code has become more than just a technical skill; it’s a key to unlocking creativity and innovation, especially for primary school teachers. As Enda Kenny once said, “Learning to code is learning to create and innovate.” This statement captures the essence of what coding can bring to the classroom.

The Power of Code to Innovate

Honestly, this trick is a gem!

The amount of times I have had to meticulously copy paper documents into Google Docs so that I can add to or edit them is insane. Or the amount of times I have seen children using up precious learning time transferring their written stories from their writing books to google docs is happening way too often.

But here is a super easy tactic to speed that whole process up.

It can be done on any device with a camera, but the easiest one would be a mobile phone or iPad because of the back facing camera.

1Open up Google Drive App on your device and tap the ‘+’ icon in the bottom right corner.

2Select ‘Use Camera’ and take a photo of the page, or selection of text that you want to scan. Once you have taken the photo it will automatically upload it to Google Drive.

3Open up Google Drive in your web browser and find the newly uploaded image. Right click on the image and go ‘Open with > Google Docs’.

4Once the document has finished loading you will have your image at the top, followed by the converted text below. You can delete the image anytime as the text has already been copied.

Note: it may be beneficial to reread the text to ensure that no words have been randomly missed out.
